Review: Tumbling Blocks by Earlene Fowler

I enjoy cozies not for their mystery, really, but the characters and locales. It's been a while since I've paid a visit to Benni in San Celina, CA. She is a good, solid lead with a great supporting cast. In addition, Fowler is a good writer.

In Tumbling Blocks, I figured out the mystery in this particular book long before its resolution but I am OK with that. My quibble was Benni's husband, Gabe. He was such a jerk in this one. He was dealing with some emotional baggage with his mom but it took over too much of the book. I remember when I first started the series and read the first few people didn't like how Benni treated Gabe. I didn't notice anything too off-putting. However, this was too much. I hope the other books I've missed don't portray him as a jerk, too, or I won't be paying anymore visits.

Hi Kari,

I love your review about Tumbling Blocks. I love cozies for the same reasons. I like the characters, the settings and whatever is that characters passion. I need to hurry up on my cozy challenge. I love Earlent Fowler. I've always wanted to quilt. I want to read the whole series from beginning to end.
